Homework Problems
The numbering scheme
-
Problems "C1.2" refer to a custom homework problem (click the link to get to it).
- Problems like "1.16" refers to a textbook exercise number 16 in Chapter 1 of the book.
- All textbook exercises are in a subsection entitled "Exercises" or "Supplementary Exercises".
- The question mark (?) at the end of the problem signals that the problem is suggested, but not graded.
- Problem "7.1(a,b)" that only parts (a) and (b) of the problem are assigned/suggested.
-
Problems starting with "Applet Exercise" suggest the use of software. Unfortunately, the Applets (i.e. Java Applets)
no longer exist. You are expected to use R to solve them. Instructions will be provided by the instructor, as necessary,
to re-interpret the problem as an R problem. There is a collection of resources with similar functionality here:
The Textbook Visual and Computational Aids
To help identify graded problems, this color scheme is adapted in the table below:
- Color of required (graded) problems.
- Color of suggested (ungraded) problems.
An Important Note
The problems below are not assigned unless they appear in a Gradescope template.
They are listed here because they may inspire some Gradescope problems.
